CREATIVITY: a DPchallenge attempt

Mamma, how did that rainbow get into the sky?

White-bright photons from the sun are passing through droplets of rain, and as they pass through the rain, each color is separated from the others. The colors spread out, like a fan, and paint the sky.

Mamma, WHY is the rainbow in the sky?

Perhaps that is another story altogether…

There was a time, and there will be again, when the edges of the world blended seamlessly from grey to black. No one had the eyes to catch the reddish hue of flowers or the bright-flash yellow of fire. The black of fertile soil was indistinguishable from the ripeness of dark fruit.

A stranger came among the people, offering a taste of pure delight. As the people drank in the sweetness, a sharp pain brought tears to their eyes. Tears cleansed the eyes. Tears changed the eyes. Blinking tears away, each person could suddenly see as never before.

A cacophony of color blazed into the people’s eyes, confounding their senses and bringing them to their knees. Such wonder! Such intensity and detail! The people wailed in pain and fear, not able to comprehend the color of the world.

Would you believe an abuelito was able to tame this colorful truth? Using his deep love for his children, for all the people, Abuelito was able to cast his own spell of visioning their eyes. He once again transformed the eyes of the people, shielding them from the colors that beat down and made them tremble.

To make doubly sure his people would be safe, he always gathers up the sunlight and sorts the colors. He set up shop in the city, from whence he sends out the rainbow. Sometimes, when it rains, we can see it streaming from the window of his shop. Maybe if we follow the rainbow, we can thank the abuelito!

Is that really what happened, Mamma?

No. The rainbow is in the sky simply because white-bright photons from the sun are passing through droplets of rain. As they pass through the rain, each color is separated from the others. The colors spread out, like a fan, and paint the sky.

Or maybe it is because of the abuelito. What do you think?

Perhaps, if I unleash my opinionated, passionate perspectives of a world in chaos, I will find a balance. Sustainability and parenting are my two greatest passions and struggles. I hope to communicate with other parents/humans who are striving for enough.
